It's the start to our favorite time of year! And what could possibly make it better? Well, it's also National Sea Shell Day! Founded by the Beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel in 2016, National Sea Shell Day reminds us to take in the beauty of shells and enjoy the activity of shelling. The Gulf Coast of Florida, especially the beaches around Fort Myers, Sanibel and Captiva Islands have incredible shelling and can keep you busy for hours searching for the perfect souvenir.
Each year, the Caloosa Team takes at least one trip to Sanibel and Captiva Islands to search for the shells that we use to make our famous Scallop Shell Charm Bracelets. If you have purchased from us in person, you have most likely received a shell charm on your shopping bag from the Gulf Coast too. We take pride in living here in Florida and want to share our love of Florida with you by bringing a little bit of sunshine your way, even if you can't be here to enjoy it with us. Check out this blog post to learn about our last shelling trip to the Gulf Coast, where we spent some time at Cayo Costa State Park.
If planning a shelling trip this summer, you have to check out the I Love Shelling Blog by Pam Rambo. Pam is a local Shell-ebrity on Sanibel Island, famous for her knowledge of shells. She gives great tips on how and where to find the best shells on the island as well as a tide chart and beach parking maps. This is the must read blog for anyone planning a visit to Sanibel Island.
While you are planning your trip, be sure to stock up on Caloosa's Ultra Comfort Shirts for your entire family. Our light weight, comfortable, UPF 30 shirts are now available for men, women AND kids. What a great way to protect your skin while shelling in the Florida sun.
