Flip Flops are the "go to" shoe for most Floridians, so we are looking forward to celebrating National Flip Flop Day this year on June 16th! Flip Flops have been around for thousands of years, originating as early as the Ancient Egyptians in 1500 BC. The modern term "Flip-Flop" has been used in American English since the 1970's; it is an onomatopoeia of the sound the sandals make when walking in them. Flip Flops are casual shoes, worn throughout the world, mostly at the beach and in hot climates...they are the best way to keep your feet and body cool in a humid climate. Just ask anyone who lives in South Florida, most of us don't own many other types of shoes.
- Dig out your favorite pair of flip flops and take a stroll on the beach or local park.
- If it's not flip flop weather where you live, wear flip flops around the house instead of socks or slippers.
- Or even better yet, go shopping for a new pair of flip flops to get in the mood for summer.
